Through the surveillance footage, Ren learns that Rui has been taken back to the mountain.
On the night Rui disappeared, Ren had a dream.
In the dream, the place where Rui was located was none other than the Veiled House—the Watarai Residence.
Ren heads to Mt. Hikami to bring Rui back.

Ren: 'The place where Rui was in my dream is the house of the folklorist Keishi Watarai. Searching there will surely reveal clues.'
Advancing along the path to the front of the Casket Swamp, he discovers that a Flamekeeper Hall has appeared there. Let's step inside to investigate.

Entering the collapsed room, the door on the left is locked from the inside and cannot be opened.
Exiting the house and bypassing it to enter the Entrance Hall, he opens the door into the corridor and heads right up to the second floor.
Ascending the stairs and turning left into the Flamekeeper Corridor, looking down into the left room with the bonfire reveals a specter: Man before the Bonfire.
Opening the door on the right side of the Flamekeeper Corridor into the Casket Room, a specter can be seen at the very back: Man Making Caskets. A voice whispers in his ear: 'A casket smoked with sacred fire can protect the pillar from the Night-Spring. If not placed into a proper casket, the pillar will soon be spent.'
At the spot where he stands, Ren collects the document The Book of the Black Casket.
Returning to the corridor and advancing to the corner, he opens the door to head downstairs, then opens the right door into the Sacred Fire Altar.
On the altar inside the room, he obtains the document The Book of the Flamekeeper's Creed.
Soon after, two hostile spirits materialize: Flame Keeper.
Exterminating them allows him to collect the document Bloodstained Note 2 near the bonfire. Exiting through the door on the opposite side allows them to leave the Flamekeeper Hall and return to the forest.

Heading down to the approach first, he encounters a hostile spirit near the intersection with the Lantern Lane: Hi織 Orihara.
Walking along the Lantern Lane to the crossroads before the Doll Shrine approach, a specter stands inside a path within a tree hollow on the left: Woman with Red Umbrella.
Bypassing the side-path and continuing along the winding path following the trace, he spots a specter beneath a tree: Woman Offering Flowers.
Afterward, he returns to the Doll Shrine.

Entering the shrine and stepping into the Front Shrine, he collects the document Shirakiku's Note 1 from the floor.
Ren: 'This is that white-haired girl's notebook...'
Passing through the passage beneath the altar display leads down into the Womb Cavern.

Advancing along the path to the intersection of the lantern-lit corridor, a specter floats in the right passage: Woman Floating in Darkness.
Continuing deeper into the room of the submerged caskets, he exterminates the manifested Casket Woman spirit and passes through the wooden grate toward the Watarai Residence.

Up on a tree to the right, a specter can be seen: Tall Woman.
Opening the door to enter the Watarai Residence, he spots a trace in the front corridor: Kazuya Sakaki in Hallway.
Ren: 'Why is Sakaki out here?'
Beneath the telephone table at the corner of the corridor, he collects the document Rui's Diary 5.
Ren: 'Rui really is here.'
Continuing forward and opening the door to the back staircase, he sees a trace: Kazuya Sakaki Ascending Stairs.
Sakaki's voice echoes: 'That photograph... ever since I laid eyes on that photograph...'
Ascending to the second floor and entering the study, a specter peeps from outside the broken window ahead: Woman Looking through Window.
On the desk, he obtains the document Folklorist's Journal 8.
Entering the Storage Room, he spots a casket, and Ren opens it.
Opening it reveals Rui trapped inside.
However, Ren is suddenly pulled into the box by him. Upon awakening, he finds himself inside the House of Joining.

Inside the guest room where he initially awakens, he collects the document Sakaki's Note 1 from a cushion.
Next, approaching the small window next to the hanging scroll reveals a lower-floor trace: Rui Kagamiya Heading Deeper Inside (House of Joining).
Opening the door to exit into the hallway, he first unlocks the right door to enter the Room of Watchers, recovering the document Kunihiko Asao's Record 1 near a small central table.
Heading downstairs and following the path into the Altar of Votive Tablets, he spots a trace: Kazuya Sakaki Looking at Photograph, collecting the document The Book of Bridal Selection at the spot where Sakaki stood.
Passing through the opposite door to the Circular Window Corridor, a trace appears at the end of the passage ahead: Kazuya Sakaki in Corridor Corner.
Reaching the corridor intersection and entering the left passage into the Storage Room, he collects the document The Book of Ghost Marriage Realization from the floor.
Returning to the intersection and advancing straight to the end yields the document Sakaki's Note 2 on the ground.
Returning to the intersection and opening the right door to enter the Banquet Hall, he collects the document The Book of the Groom from the floor before a folding screen.
Just as he prepares to open the door to the right of the screen, two hostile spirits materialize: Inori Mizukago (Alive). After defeating them, he exits through the door.
Stepping out into a courtyard garden, a white-haired old woman approaches respectfully and says to Ren: 'Welcome. For Dr. Asao to visit us once more is truly an occasion worth celebrating. Have you decided on your betrothed? Come, your bride is waiting, please follow me.' She guides you into the inner bridal chamber.
Entering the chamber reveals a bride dressed in a pristine white-kimono—upon closer look, it is actually Rui!
Just as Ren rushes over to Rui, the bride instantly morphs into a black-robed wraith!!!
Ren snaps awake instantly, realizing he is still in the Storage Room of the Watarai Residence, right where he rescued Rui.

Ren asks Rui: 'Can you walk?'
Rui murmurs: 'Yes, Master... I have always... been waiting...'
Leaving the Storage Room and returning to the study, a trace appears approaching someone: Kazuya Sakaki Striking Conversation.
Sakaki's voice echoes: 'Ren... don't look at that photograph... that woman's photograph...'
Descending to the main Entrance Hall, they find the front doors slammed shut by an immense power, sealing them inside.
Opening the door from the back staircase into the Buddhist Altar Room reveals a trace: Man Sealed Inside Casket.
Sakaki's voice wails: 'Ren... why didn't you say anything... why didn't you give me an answer... if you had just done that, I...'
Passing through the Altar Room and reaching the end of the kitchen service corridor, they find that door locked as well. Photographing the handle yields a Psychic Vision: The Photographed Memento Portrait, indicating that the key lies between two memorial portraits.
Retracing their steps to the Buddhist Altar Room, memorial portraits hang across three walls.
Photographing the second and third portraits on the left causes an item to drop from behind the frames, yielding the Rusty Red Key.
Suddenly, a submerged casket on the floor bursts open, and the hostile spirit Kazuya Sakaki emerges. Defeating him rewards Ren with the document Rotting Note.
Using the Rusty Red Key to unlock the kitchen service door, they escape the Watarai Residence through the back exit.
